MECNME Spiral Wound Gasket Product Styles

What is a Spiral Wound Gasket?

A spiral wound gasket (SWG) is a precision‑engineered industrial sealing component built to deliver dependable sealing performance under harsh working conditions.

MECNME Spiral Wound Gaskets are constructed by alternately stacking pre‑formed profiled metal strips and compressible filler media including flexible graphite and PTFE. Upon compression, this composite structure forms a robust sealing interface well‑suited for high‑temperature and high‑pressure service.

The special profile of the metal strip functions like a spring under bolt load, maintaining resilient sealing even amid operating‑condition fluctuations. End‑users can select different metal strip alloys and filler grades to match unique process‑media and application requirements across diverse industry segments.

MECNME Spiral Wound Gasket Product Styles

MECNME supplies three core SWG configurations engineered for distinct flange‑sealing scenarios:

  1. Style DOnly the spiral‑wound sealing element (metal strip + filler). Optimized for tongue‑and‑groove and male‑female flange joints. An optional inner‑ring variant (Style DI) is available to boost mechanical strength for more severe‑duty conditions.
  2. Style DRSealing element fitted with an outer centering ring. The centering ring reinforces overall gasket rigidity, serves as a compression limiter, and assists accurate gasket alignment during installation. This variant fits raised‑face and full‑face flanges. Its epoxy‑coated centering ring delivers improved anti‑corrosion performance versus ordinary surface treatments.
  3. Style DRIIntegrates sealing element, outer centering ring and inner ring. The inner ring upgrades radial stiffness, shields the winding element from medium erosion, and prevents inward buckling. In compliance with ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are strongly recommended for most spiral‑wound gasket sizes and pressure‑classes.

Key Advantages of MECNME Spiral Wound Gaskets

Compared with conventional spiral wound gaskets, MECNME SWGs adopt tight‑tolerance manufacturing and optimized winding density, bringing prominent strengths:

  • Low‑stress sealing capability: Reliable sealing can be achieved with reduced bolt pre‑load, removing the requirement to stock separate standard‑stress and low‑stress gasket inventories.
  • Excellent low‑seating‑stress performance: Establishes initial tight sealing at minimal seating stress and retains sealing integrity under normal operating conditions.
  • Strong resilience for variable conditions: Maintains stable sealing performance under cyclic temperature and pressure swings.
  • Enhanced corrosion protection: Epoxy‑coated centering rings for DR / DRI types resist atmospheric corrosion effectively.
  • Extended service life: The inner‑ring design of Style DRI improves radial strength, prevents inward buckling and mitigates erosion damage for longer service cycles.

Typical Application Scope

MECNME spiral wound gaskets are widely deployed for flanged connections, heat exchangers, boiler manholes & handholes, and valve bonnets. They excel in high‑pressure, high‑temperature working environments involving corrosive or hazardous media.

Target industries cover oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, chemical processing, mining, food & beverage, pulp‑and‑paper and other heavy‑duty industrial sectors.
